Republicans should do their best to allow Eric Holder to depart the Justice Department as quickly as possible. He has been as bad an Attorney General in his way as Alberto Gonzales was in his way.
Justice ought to be blind and it ought to be color-blind, but that’s not how Holder viewed his job. He viewed everything through the prism of black and white.
He helped to fund protests during the Trayvon Martin incident, adding an unnecessary and dangerous element to an already combustible situation.
He immediately took the side of Michael Brown over the cop who shot him, making the basic assumption that Brown was an angelic high school graduate over all evidence that he had actually assaulted the police officer who shot him.
He did his best to shake down the banks, making them pay over and over again, in lawsuit after lawsuit. That money was eventually funneled to groups affiliated with the Obama campaign, including the successors to ACORN.
He jailed and harassed journalists in an attempt to stifle free speech and intimidate the Fourth Estate.
He was a friend of the President’s but he was also his alter-ego. He said and did things that Mr. Obama only wished he could do.
He called America a nation of cowards when it comes to race relations, when the American people have done their level best to live in peace together. We have come a long way in this country, especially after we elected the first African-American President in our history (a President with a mighty thin resume, I might add). We deserve better than to be called cowards.
Eric Holder seemed to be a bitter man on a mission to bring not equal justice under the law but rather to deliver a measure of revenge.
The idea that Republicans should filibuster or delay his replacement – a replacement who may be confirmed in the lame duck — is a mistake. Of course, we should see who it is the President will name, but I would be dumbstruck if it could be anybody worse than Eric Holder.
Let’s get him to the private sector, pronto.
